The service

ChessNotate is a free chess notation trainer at chessnotate.com. Five drills (Square ID, Notation Write, Colour Quiz, PGN Walkthrough, Read & Play) are free without an account. A free account unlocks the famous-games library and a personal progress report. There is no paid tier.

Account and access

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• Keep your sign-in credentials private.
• We may suspend accounts that abuse the service (automated scraping, repeated spam, etc.). We will not suspend an account for normal practice activity.

Content

The famous-games library uses public-domain chess games sourced from pgnmentor.com. The site's text, drill design, and code are © 2025–2026 Dao Solutions, made available under the project's open-source licence.

No warranty

ChessNotate is provided "as is". We make no guarantees about uptime or fitness for any particular purpose. Practice gains are real — but no chess software substitutes for actual play.
